Royal Lochnagar
로얄 로크나가
Royal Lochnagar is a Highland single malt Scotch whisky distillery founded by John Begg in 1845 at Crathie in Royal Deeside, Aberdeenshire, approximately one mile from Balmoral Castle. Its royal association began in 1848, when Queen Victoria and Prince Albert visited the distillery, after which it received a Royal Warrant and became known as Royal Lochnagar. Now owned by Diageo, the distillery remains one of the company's smallest traditional malt whisky sites. It retains an open mash tun, wooden washbacks, a pair of small copper pot stills and traditional worm tub condensers. Clear wort, long fermentation, slow distillation and warm-running worm tubs help create a relatively light, grassy and fruity spirit. Its best-known official bottlings include Royal Lochnagar 12 Year Old and Selected Reserve.
