Daniel Bouju is an independent family Cognac estate in Saint-Preuil whose winery history is traced to 1805 and has continued through seven generations. The family farms roughly 30 hectares in the heart of Grande Champagne, making the house strongly terroir-led rather than primarily a merchant blender. Vineyard work, distillation and ageing are handled within the family production chain, with an emphasis on reasoned viticulture, restrained use of treatments and preservation of the character of Grande Champagne fruit. Bouju is particularly associated with traditional Charentais double distillation and long ageing, including mature expressions that spend extended periods in oak. The producer’s appeal is its continuity: a relatively small estate, a clearly defined Premier Cru origin and a style shaped by family decisions at every stage from the vineyard to the cellar.
