Frapin is a family Cognac house whose winegrowing and distilling heritage is traced by the house to 1270. Its identity is unusually estate-focused: the family cultivates about 240 hectares of vines in a single holding in Grande Champagne, Cognac’s Premier Cru, around Segonzac, and controls the process from vineyard work and harvest through distillation, ageing and bottling. The estate includes Château Fontpinot, and Frapin is known for distilling wines with their fine lees and for long maturation in a range of dry and humid cellars, allowing the cellar master to shape texture and aromatic development through both spirit selection and cellar environment. Rather than operating mainly as a blender buying broadly across the appellation, Frapin presents itself as a single-family, single-estate producer whose style is closely tied to its Grande Champagne soils, stocks of mature eaux-de-vie and centuries of accumulated vineyard knowledge.
