CAMUS was founded in 1863 by Jean-Baptiste Camus and remains one of the best-known large independent family-owned Cognac houses. Five generations have developed the company while retaining family control, and the house has made Borderies a central part of its identity, including family vineyard holdings consolidated over time in Cognac’s smallest cru. CAMUS combines estate viticulture with broader Cognac-house skills in sourcing, distillation, ageing and blending; its modern production philosophy is especially associated with detailed control of distillation and the capture of highly aromatic fractions of the spirit. The house has also built a substantial international presence without becoming part of one of the major global drinks conglomerates. Its producer identity therefore joins two scales that are not always found together in Cognac: a substantial worldwide brand and a still family-directed house with a distinctive Borderies heritage and continuing technical focus on aromatic intensity.
