Rémy Martin was founded in 1724 by a young winegrower of the same name and has built its house identity around the Champagne crus of Cognac. A defining decision was the long-term focus on Fine Champagne Cognac, made from Grande Champagne and Petite Champagne eaux-de-vie with at least half from Grande Champagne; this has tied the brand closely to chalk-rich terroirs prized for long ageing. The house works through extensive partnerships with winegrowers and the Alliance Fine Champagne, combining agricultural relationships with its own distillation, maturation, tasting and blending expertise. Historical milestones include the royal permission granted in 1738 to plant additional vines and the development of Grande Champagne Cognacs during the nineteenth century. Rather than presenting itself as a single estate, Rémy Martin is a specialist large house whose continuity rests on grower partnerships, deep aged stocks and a very deliberate restriction of its sourcing universe to the two Champagne crus.
